Diverse Dance is an inclusive dance organisation working with communities in London. They have been delivering regular dance activity, intensives and workshops in Lambeth for over seven years working with people of all abilities and backgrounds aged 4 – 40 years old. Diverse Dance has a reputation for working with disabled and non-disabled people in London and is a key resource for participants with learning disabilities to engage in physical, creative and expressive activity.
Currently Diverse works in partnership with learning disability charity Rathbone to deliver a mainstream class for 11-19 year olds and a class for 13 – 25 year old dancers with learning difficulties and disabilities. In partnership with Studio.B in Brixton, Diverse delivers their class for 25+ years, which is open to adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
All Diverse sessions encourage individual dancers and support them to understand their unique bodies and embrace their own style. We provide dancers with a safe and supportive environment in which creativity is encouraged to support their development. We educate our dancers not only in terms of technique, but equally in the devising of performance including concept/theme development and choreographic tools – a “Diverse Dancer” is part of the process of creation from the beginning to the end. Diverse delivers Bronze & Silver Arts Award for all groups we work with, enabling them to explore their professional development in the arts.
Diverse Dance has been part of platforms at The Lambeth Country Show, Studio.B, Southbank Centre and local Lambeth community festivals. Diverse Dance’s annual showcase is held in a professional theatre isy integrated, bringing together all of the dancers we work with.
Diverse Dances’ Lead Facilitators and Directors are Andrea Swainson and Natalia Barua
